The Legacy Trail is a 25 mile-long linear park which runs from Casperson Park to Sarasota. It opened in March of 2008 and was the result of the public purchase of the CXS railroad corridor. The trail includes 25 miles of blacktopped trail which includes trestles over both Donna Bay and Roberts Bay. Most recently, a $3.1 million Pedestrian Overpass was constructed to provide safe passage over Tamiami Trail aka U.S. 41. The Legacy Trail is used by countless joggers, walkers, bicyclists and in line skaters.
